Superiority

Thermo stable rosin derivative, recommend to replace disproportionated rosin and staybelite for all kinds benzidine type yellow pigments

especially PY174 and PY176 to prevent rish of inflammation when drying.Much better color strength.Transparency compared with other

rosin derivatives

Details

A thermo-Stable Rosin derivative
Composition on ingredients

A special disproportionated rosin with improved thermo stability in pigment production &
storage. It’s a substitution of staybelite and disproportionated rosin using noble-meta as
catalyst which may cause fire in pigment production.
Introduction
Staybelite and disproportionated rosin were widely used in pigment industry in the
past. From then on, serious accidents of taking fire have been happened worldwide by
using staybelite and disproportionated rosin adopting noble-meta as catalyst. Many
chemists are dedicated to find the reason of inflammation and finally they found that’s
because of small quantities of noble-meta catalyst left in the finished staybelite and
disproportionated rosin. Chemists are also make their efforts to find a way which is safe
while using staybelite and disproportionated rosin adopting noble-meta as catalyst, for
example, Clariant had applied patents of using antioxidant or flame retardant together
with staybelite or disproportionated rosin, but another problem occurred---pigments
containing antioxidant or flame retardant can not be used in many inks for inks are more
difficult to dry after printing.
So, there is a need of developing a thermo stable rosin derivative out suited for
pigment production, the new rosin derivative should be safe and even better
performance for pigments.
Luckily, we developed rosin-511 out by using sulphur & iodine as catalyst.
Rosin-511 is safe for pigment manufacturing and storage; better performance of pigment
can be obtained. It is now widely used by big size pigment producer like BASF, Clariant,
Toyo, and Flint etc.
Chemical & physical properties
No.  Items  Properties
1  Appearance  Yellow flake
2  Softening point ≥80℃
3  Acid value  ≥160 mgKOH/g

Application
1. Surface treatment of diarlyide pigments, ex. PY 174#, PY 176# and CuPc which is
suitable for offset inks.
2. Surface treatment of CuPc and violet 23.
Performance & Method
After treated with Rosin-511, organic pigments are particularly suitable for offset inks.
For diarylide pigments, even the pigments containing over 40% Rosin-511, color strength
will not decrease compared with pigments contain no resins. It can significantly improve
gloss & transparence of organic pigments. Pigments thus obtained have good flowablity
& excellent dispersibility. Especially suit for surface treatment of PR12#, PR13#, PR14#,
PY83#, PR126#, PR127#, PR174#, PR176#, CuPc & violet 23#.
How to make alkali solution of Rosin-511
1.6KGS of NaOH, 110L of non-ions water, 10KGS of Rosin-511 are mixed, stirred
and heated to 95~100℃ until a light yellow clear solution is obtained.
Package
